Last night, I was folding laundry and flipping through the channels on the TV. I like to have the TV on while I fold or iron clothes. I stopped on HBO. The movie Taking Chance was showing. I had seen it on the Tivo schedule a few times before, and I decided to watch it. Kevin Bacon stars as a marine who volunteers to escort the remains of PFC Chance Phelps to be interred. The stories of both the escort and the fallen hero have been documented on the internet and various news shows. http://www.chancephelps.org/ is a good place to start if you want more background.
This movie was incredibly touching, and I am glad I stopped to watch it. Layton watched the movie with Jay and me. At one point, I stepped into the kitchen. As I walked back into the den, I saw Layton standing in front of the TV saluting the casket as it was loaded onto an airplane. The silhouette of my three year old son saluting will forever be in my heart. Even at three, he was able to recognize the sentiment of the film.
I would strongly recommend this movie to anyone. Anyone.
