Thing 1 and Thing 2 are admittedly my favorite Dr. Seuss characters. They are wild and have to be captured after causing chaos and flying kites inside. I am much like the Things. When we only had the two girls, I often referred to them as Thing 1 and Thing 2. Children are definitely like the Things. They come into your house and bring a somewhat manic entertainment to your life. One is always dumping something out on the kitchen floor. One is probably half naked and running. One might be finger painting the walls. One is quite possibly putting the family pet in a box. Oh yes, children are much like the book, The Cat in the Hat.
Every year the elementary school my children have attended and will (Layton starts in the Fall.) attend participates in Read Across America Week. Each day is meant to celebrate reading and all things Seuss. The Wednesday of RAAW was recycle day. Each child had to "recycle" a shirt to wear that day. Ella took an old, white shirt and decided to paint Thing 1 and Thing 2.
I helped her print a page off the Internet and put the paper under the shirt to trace. Then, she took over all the painting. I think it turned out beautiful...
Especially for a seven year old...
She did such a GREAT job!! And, I have to admit that Thing 1 and Thing 2 are more special to me now than ever....
