Pretend Zen...

Layton is all jacked up on drugs. He can't help it; it's just the way his life will always be. I don't know if you've had experience with steroids, but roids can really make a person go bananas. (I'll leave out the time I had to take Prednisone and threw a Sonic cheeseburger out the window of our car...and the fact that J went all the way inside the Sonic to get me another one after I yelled "What am I supposed to eat now?" Notice the crazy?) Roids will make your world raw.

Layton does a very good job (for the most part) of keeping the crazy under control. He has moments when everything falls apart and he ends up in tears, and I end up in tears. And we both wind up in a heap on the floor together trying desperately to feel balanced. There are moments when he yells or says something inappropriate or attacks one of his siblings. The mania is a normal side effect. It takes a lot of patience and love to get through those days.

J and I tell Layton that he is stronger than the medicine, and that he can work to control it. This is probably a lie, but I choose to put it in the Basic Lies Parents Tell Their Children category along with Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and so on. So, Layton meditates. Often. It doesn't matter where he is or what is going on around him; if he starts to feel possessed, he will Om. It's his way of trying to feel in control of his body. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it makes him start giggling. Sometimes the sight of him meditating begs for a picture.

Have you Om-ed lately?
