Cinco de Mayo...With a Cheap Cup...

We had a great Cinco de Mayo dinner! We went to a local restaurant that serves great food; I ordered some type of quesadilla that contained chicken and pineapple. Talk about YUM!!! I also ordered a strawberry margarita. I was surprised when it came to the table in a solo cup....like the kind we use at the river house on holidays....when there are 50 people coming in and out of the house all day....and no one wants to wash that many dishes...

Those who know me in real life know that I am not much of a drinker. I just don't like it much. There are definitely certain drinks that I do like though. A good glass of Riesling is wonderful in the summer. I like anything strawberry and frozen. Beer? No thank you. Once every few years, I'll get a hankering for a Corona with a lime in it, and even then, it has to be unbearably hot outside before I'll drink it. It has to do with a mission trip to Mexico I went on as a teenager.

Anyway, I thought it was cute that the restaurant resorted to disposable cups for margaritas on their big day.

16 Penny Salute...

As I was taking clothes out of the washer the other night, I noticed this:

in the washer. Seriously. Why was it there? Apparently, I didn't do a good job emptying all of the pockets of the pants. Layton found it at the farm, and he was convinced it was a treasure. He'd been carrying it around and showing it off as his "treasure." One man's trash is another man's treasure...especially if the man who finds the trash is only 4.

Those Women...

I am not one of those women. You know the ones I am talking about. The women who are beautiful and charismatic. They always look so well put together. I usually have make up smeared across my face and something strange stuck in my hair. I just noticed a grease stain on the front of my shirt and a hole on the shoulder of it. No, I never look well put together.

How do they do it? How do all of these women manage to look so wonderful every single day of the week? They even make sweat pants look fashionable.

Earlier today, I saw a woman that I went to high school with. She always looks wonderful. I just don't get it. No matter how much time I spend picking clothes, attempting make up and hair, primping, etc., I still look like a bland accountant.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a way to make an accountant look like someone presentable. :)

Girls Gone Wild...

The girls had a ton of fun rock hopping in the creek at the farm. I already blogged about Layton demanding to do it too. The creek runs right past the area that we like to use for camping. In fact, we are planning to camp this coming weekend. Only for one night though...I am doing the Relay for Life Friday night and am helping with a baby shower Saturday morning, so Saturday afternoon we will load the children in the car and camp out!! I can't wait to get some good pictures of the girls camping!

Another thing that has me super excited about camping this weekend is that the weather here is going to cool off a good bit. That means we'll get to have a big campfire!! I love popcorn cooked on a campfire, and breakfast taste positively wonderful over the open flames. I am getting way too pumped about this!! Watch a freak thunderstorm put an end to my plans!!

Flower Power...

Ella loves flowers. She learned all about plants at school this year. She picked out some pots and seeds for the house, and she has planted a variety of flowers still waiting to bloom.
The flowers at the farm are already starting to show off though!! She just had to water them a couple of weeks ago.
Notice she is wearing her flower pajamas. Yep, I'm that mom....the one who takes her children out in public in their pajamas. HA!

iWALK...heWALK...

Layton loves the iWALK shirt as much as I do! He has been sleeping in it A LOT! He fell asleep in my bed watching Curious George last night. I couldn't resist a picture of my baby swallowed by a shirt. :)

The Reading Species...

The ever elusive Hadley was spotted on a memory card earlier this week. This particular species has been known to hide from the camera and spend untold hours holed up reading.

Posted by Picasa

You will recognize the Hadley species by it's long, straight, blond mane. It will most likely be holding a book or rooting in an effort to find unhealthy snack food. The species is marked at the nape of its neck in a pale pink manner.
Please, do not feed the Hadley species anything containing sugar. It will keep you up all night.

Oh, and if you see her, tell her I said to clean her room.

Curly Top...Curly Tops...

The girls wanted me to roll their hair one night.

This was no easy task. Ella's hair is so fine, thin, and breaks so easy. Getting her hair to look good is a major part of my morning routine. I spend twice as long on her hair as I do on my own hair.

Hadley's hair turned out great though! Her hair is completely straight (obviously this is not from my gene pool but her dad's gene pool), but it rolls so beautifully. Please ignore the toothpaste on her face in this picture. She is absolutely going to hate me when she reads this post later.

Ella's hair turned out pretty good too. I was really nervous about it though. After they went to bed for the night, I prayed that we wouldn't have melt downs the next morning!! Ha!

What are some tips for getting big curls on little girls? I stick to sponge rollers and gel. Does anyone know of something that works better? I'd love some tips!

Remember the Wet Feet?...

Remember those wet feet I mentioned a few days ago? They were rock hopping in the creek at the farm!

At first, he didn't want to get in, but Jay and the girls were already wading through the shallow creek. He wants to do everything his sisters do, so he asked me to roll up his jeans. He had a blast!!

Big Boy in the Baby Swing...

This is the kind of picture I will pull out when my son brings home a lovely girlfriend many, many, many years from now. Oops. Mama can dream, right?

We were at the park playing, and Layton wanted to swing. Unfortunately, this was the only kind of swing at the playground, so I stuck him in the baby swing. He loved it though!!

And, as you can see, the blonde fro is starting to come back. What do you think? Should I leave the curls wild and fro-like? Or, should I keep it cut short?

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words...

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what does this picture say?

Is It Any Wonder?...

If your park had a huge pond with fountains in the middle of it, would your children want to go everyday too? There are also a lot of ducks that are normally in the water, but all the ducks were in the brush bedding down. It didn't matter to these two!!

Great Lack of Expectations...

My parents always had great expectations for me. If I were capable of making an A on a test, they wanted me to bring home an A+.

I know a woman who has unrealistic expectations of her husband. He can't possibly accomplish all of the things she wants him to do. There are only 24 hours in a day, and some of that time has to be devoted to sleeping.

My own children have crazy expectations of me. They expect me to do everything for them. I constantly remind them that my job isn't to do everything for them but to teach them to do everything for themselves.

Here's where things get a little strange. I have very few expectations of other people. Literally, I expect nothing from anyone I know. What does that say about me?

I've been giving it some thought, and I think I learned not to expect anything from anyone as a way to keep my emotions in control. If my expectations are not met, I tend to get upset. If I remove expectations from the equation all together, then there is never a reason to be upset. I am all about avoiding unpleasant emotions
and confrontation.

Is there anything you do to avoid being upset or disappointed?

Just Cause....

Play on Words...

Ella and Layton love the park. They love to play on all the slides and swings. Here are a couple more pictures from a recent playground trip.

Let's promote a healthy downtown!!

Funny Farm...

We had the best visit to the farm recently! The children had an absolute blast, and the weather was so perfect. We were looking at locations to go camping in another week or two. We have the perfect spot picked out, and we will be taking all three of the children this time! We have never taken Layton camping before, so this should be an adventure!!

Our camp outs usually include popcorn popped over the campfire and breakfast on a cast iron skillet. We have had a ton of fun camping in the past, and I am really looking forward to this first time with Layton.

More to come....
